Sheldon closes strong to finish 3rd in Secretariat Stakes (Gr. 1)

Sheldon (Purim – Golden Disk, by Diesis (GB)) put in a game effort yesterday in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park, coming home quickly to get up and hang on for third in the $500,000 race. The chestnut colt added $49,500 to his career earnings of over $176,000. Congratulations to owner Ninety North Racing Stable, trainer James Toner, and jockey Javier Castellano. Just Sam (Greeley’s Conquest – Katie Bird, by Dome) is slated to make the first start of his career on Saturday, August 16th at Evangeline Downs in a $22,000 Maiden Special Weight race. The bay gelding was bred in Kentucky by his owner, Dream Walkin’ Farms, better known as country music star Toby Keith. Just Sam is 12/1 on the morning line in a field of 12 two-year-olds. Greely Is Back (Greeley’s Conquest – Kitty’s Legend, by Souvenir Copy) put in a game effort to run 3rd in his first career start in a $28,500 Maiden Special Weight race at Ellis Park on Saturday, July 26th. Casiguapo finished 6 1/4 lengths off the lead to run 5th in the Amsterdam Stakes (Grade 2) at Saratoga on Saturday, July 26th. Multiple graded stakes placed Casiguapo (Sightseeing – Emerald Buddha, by Buddha) looks to knock down his first stakes victory this Saturday, July 26th at Saratoga in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes. The chestnut colt seems to have taken well to his return to the Saratoga dirt after posting a solid 4 furlong workout in 47.50 on July 19th over the same track where he ran second in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes last September. Casiguapo was bred in Kentucky by the University of Kentucky’s Maine Chance Farm on a donated season and was last seen closing strong to get up for second in the Cherokee Run Stakes at Gulfstream Park on July 5th.
