Sheldon closes strong to finish 5th in Belmont Derby Invitational (G1)

July 6, 2014 by Keith Haag

Congratulations to the connections of Sheldon, a 3-year old colt by Purim who ran a very promising 5th in the Grade 1 $1.25 million Belmont Derby Invitational against exceptionally strong company. Sheldon hit a wall of traffic at the top of the stretch and still found his way to the outside to close very strong from the back of the pack, beaten by only 4 1/2 lengths. Great job by owners Ninety North Racing Stable, trainer James Toner, and jockey Junior Alvarado getting this horse to run big in his first start since breaking his maiden on June 12th at Belmont Park. The crew here at Endeavor Farm look forward to seeing Sheldon progress and wish him and his connections the best of luck moving forward.
